Driving down the highway last week, I had to tell my son to close his eyes. Usually I encourage him to keep his eyes open, because you never know what beautiful wildlife you'll see along the way. This day, it was a truck full of chickens stuffed in cages, clearly on their way to the slaughter house. One chicken was pushed so hard against the cage that his beak was stuck open because the rung of the metal was in his mouth. The image stayed with me and made me think twice about where my purchases come from.
