January Feature: Shop Your Closet

Happy New Year! The Holidays always come and go so quickly, I almost forgot to make a New Year’s Resolution. Knowing that I don’t like to be told what to do, I usually set my resolution bar low. I tend to become rebellious when I set restrictions on myself, so to avoid a catastrophe, I’m going to just keep it to January. No. I’m not doing Dry January. I live in Maine. The only thing that gets me through the worst month of the year is alcohol. No, I’m not joining a gym. Everyone is joining a gym. I much prefer to workout at home or outside.

My January Resolution is to: Shop my Closet (i.e. buy nothing new and only wear what I already own). Some of you may be thinking… I haven’t bought anything new in months. Not me. I not only shop a lot (let’s call it an occupational hazard), but I also receive a lot of new clothes from Brands to be featured on my Blog. I intentionally paused my Brand collaborations this month so I can only feature looks I already own. Keep your eyes peeled for OOTD (outfit of the day) looks featured weekly from my very own closet!

I’ve been learning more and more about “fast fashion” and how much of it goes to waste in landfills. It’s crazy. I’m talking 10.45 million tons of clothes go into a landfill every year. Gross. Instead, let’s focus on sustainable brands. Brands that have clothing made from recycled material. Re-worked or re-purposed fabrics. And consignment boutiques that sell gently used clothing.

This very feasible New Year’s Resolution is going to be fun. It will be beneficial to my wallet, the environment and my crawlspace. Join me this January and shop your closet! Rediscover pieces you already own and give them a new combination. Pair something you love with something unexpected. Layer up. Get creative and have fun. Looks coming all month… Love, Chelsea
