Trending: Over the Knee Boots
There is literally no one in the world that is happier to announce that over-the-knee boots are back, baby! I’m at the age where I’ve seen trends come, go and come back. Sometimes my reaction to the trend leaving is, NOOOOOOOOO. Sometimes, I’m like, thank goodness. Same can be said about when they come back. For example, when low-rise jeans tried to make a comeback, my mind was blown. Anything that causes muffin top should be banned. So every once in a while, when something comes back that I never stopped loving, but stopped wearing, because it went out of style, I’m a very happy girl.
Over-the-knee boots are so good for so many reasons. First of all, I’m a huge fan of dresses and skirts. And I hate tights. I’ve tried every style/brand of tights on the planet and I have yet to find a pair that stays up, but doesn’t pinch at the waist. I live in Maine and it’s cold from October to May (sometimes even June). That’s a very short bare-leg season. So the best solution to bridging the bare leg gap? Over-the-knee boots!!
Personally, my favorite way to style them is with a fitted dress, like the one I’m wearing above. Long sleeve, short sleeve, sleeveless with a layering piece. It’s a very flattering silhouette on my body type. Don’t have my body-type? They work with all body-types. More of a pear (hips wider than shoulders)? Go with a dress or skirt that is fitted around the waist and flares out at the hips. More of an apple (thicker waist)? Go with a dress that is more fitted around the shoulders and chest, then billows out a little around the waist, then comes back in at the hips. If you’re more of an inverted triangle (shoulders are wider than your hips)? Try a more boxy top or sweater, then pair it with a more fitted skirt or dress that hugs the hips. Don’t like wearing dresses or skirts, but want to sport the over-the-knee boots? They go perfectly over skinny jeans and leggings.
Choosing the right pair of over-the-knee boots is very personal. Finding the right fit, means trying them on. Every pair has different texture, heel style/height and the fit around the thigh is extremely important. Personally, I like a nice slim-fitted boot that hugs my thighs, a pointed toe, a short block heel and a warm suede texture. The pair I’m wearing above is from Amazon. I have them in tan and black. They have a 1.5” block heel, which makes them very easy to walk in. The pointed toe elongates my legs (which I really don’t need, but why not). The suede makes them warm and pairs well with knitted fabrics. They do slouch a little when I’m wearing them over bare legs, but I actually really like the look.
You’re going to see me wearing my new over-the-knee boots a lot for the rest of the winter and into spring. They’re the perfect way for me to incorporate skirts and dresses into my cooler wardrobe. I highly recommend giving them a try. Pair them over leggings with an over sized sweater, for a more casual look. Warm up your skinny denim by layering them over, with a hip grazing top. And of course, they’re the perfect accessory to skirts and dresses.
My dress is from H&M, the boots are Amazon and the baby bag is Primark. The entire fit is under $50.00.
